MLCI Berbagi: Tackling Stunting in Kelurahan Pisangan Baru, East Jakarta
Jakarta - PT Mitsui Leasing Capital Indonesia initiated its annual series of CSR activities entitled “MLCI Berbagi” as of November 1, 2023. This CSR activity will continue for the next three months. This year, the company raised the case of stunting as an issue to focus on.
Stunting is a growth disorder that affects children. It is important to note that this condition does not occur suddenly. Instead, it is caused by a prolonged lack of nutritional intake, either during the fetus's development in the mother's womb or through malnutrition after the child is born. In addition, stunting may result from repeated infections, premature birth, or low birth weight.
Children who are classified as stunted experience barriers to both physical and cognitive growth. The most noticeable symptom of stunting is when a child's height is significantly below the average for their age group. A child who has stunting typically has a relatively thinner body, struggles to gain weight, experiences delayed teeth growth, and has a weakened immune system, making them more susceptible to diseases. Beyond the physical effects, children with stunting may also encounter difficulties in focusing, exhibit poor memory, and experience delayed motor development. Clearly, this issue requires immediate attention as it poses a threat to the overall quality of human development for Indonesia’s next generation.
Therefore, through its annual CSR program, PT Mitsui Leasing Capital Indonesia aims to contribute in tackling stunting cases on a regional scale in Kelurahan Pisangan Baru, East Jakarta. The company will provide assistances in the form of nutritious consumption, including eggs and milk. This support will be distributed to 20 children with stunting and 40 children with malnutrition. This nutritional improvement for children with stunting is a gradual process, not a one-time event. Therefore, the Company will distribute eggs and milk daily for the next three months. This initiative is conducted with the full support of Kelurahan Pisangan Baru, East Jakarta.
The symbolic handover event for this CSR activity was held on Thursday, November 16, 2023. Mr. Naoyuki Akiyama, the President Director of PT Mitsui Leasing Capital Indonesia, visited Kelurahan Pisangan Baru’s Office in East Jakarta, where the handover ceremony was held. During this visit, the Company brought simple gifts containing snacks. The Lurah, PKK Chairperson, and 15 family representatives from each Rukun Warga were present and welcomed the Company. They expressed their gratitude for the Company's concern regarding the issue of stunting, aiming to improve the quality of the nation's next generation.
Recently, the issue of stunting in Indonesian children has become a topic that is increasingly discussed by the government and the public. Hopefully this CSR activity organized by PT Mitsui Leasing Capital Indonesia can contribute and further raise awareness of the urgency of tackling stunting problems in Indonesia.
